The Inspiration Behind the Season

How We Learned to Love Florals - Not Perfect Linen

How We Learned to Love Florals

NPL has always been about calmness - about texture, breathability, and clothes that don't rush. Pieces that feel grounded, quiet, and lived-in. So florals stayed at a distance for a while. Beautiful, but unfamiliar.

Our relationship with floral patterns was never instant. It grew slowly - through trials, missteps, and many versions that felt like "too much" or "not quite us." Our love for florals truly took root when we began to understand their remarkable qualities - how they strengthen our linen, soften with wear, and grow more beautiful with time.

Imagine an old wooden street shop - the kind where the wooden storefront hasn't been replaced by glass - its shelves filled with vintage textiles. Rolls of handmade fabrics stacked beside timeworn wool rugs, their patterns softened by decades of footsteps. Faded florals, muted tones, threads carrying the quiet scent of linen, wool, wood, and years gently passing. Textiles that have lived, been folded, unfolded, touched, and treasured.

That is the feeling we try to translate into our new floral collection.

When small florals are first printed on linen, the fabric can feel slightly stiffer. And yes - it really does. That first touch is different from washed, plain linen. But we learned early on that this moment of stiffness is not a flaw. It's the beginning of a longer story. Tiny floral patterns add a fine layer of structure to linen. They gently reinforce the fabric, making it more resilient and stable - especially in areas that experience daily movement and wear.

During our durability tests, we noticed something more interesting: linen fabrics with small, dense floral patterns performed better than plain linen fabric. This does not mean our plain linen is any less durable. Its quality and strength are more than enough to endure for decades. Yet floral linens hold their shape longer, show even less fatigue, and age more evenly - becoming part of the story that will be told for decades.

We take special care to soften our tiny floral linen from the very start - but like all true linen, it continues to soften beautifully with time and wear. Washes, movement, sunlight, and everyday life help the fabric relax. The floral pattern blends into the linen, losing its sharpness in the most beautiful way.
