The past year has been challenging for most of us. But especially for medical sector workers, who experienced countless stressful moments and have felt on edge since the start of this pandemic. Feeling deep empathy for the dedicated people who work tirelessly to save lives, we felt the need to be of service to them. Inspired by similar acts of kindness worldwide, we wanted to take part in this beautiful movement.
Taking Action During a Global Shortage
At the beginning of the pandemic, there was a shortage of simple protective materials urgently needed by the brave individuals on the front line — medical personnel. While suppliers struggled to meet the demand, we realized it was time to act and do what we do best: work with our sewing machines and fabrics.
We came up with the idea of sewing protective face masks — both functional and made with love by our own hands — and distributing them to local hospitals. The protective linen masks we created were breathable, washable, and made from high-quality layered linen, offering effective protection to the wearer. We also hope the colorful designs brightened the days of care facility workers, even just a little.
Although we never aimed to make medical-grade masks, we hoped they might help essential medical workers feel safer and supported.
A Small Gesture of Care
We distributed the handmade linen face masks to medical personnel as a sincere offering. We hoped this simple act of kindness would spark even a little joy in their hearts and help them feel cared for and supported. Seeing the bright and courageous faces of the individuals who do everything they can to help others was deeply meaningful to us.
We are also grateful to our own team members who kindly participated in this project.
Finding Calm in Creation
Sometimes acts like these feel almost meditative — helping to calm the mind and transform negative thoughts into positive ones. With each linen stitch, we reminded ourselves of the importance of caring for one another and striving to be better each day.
If you have spare fabric at home, we encourage you to reuse it and sew a face mask for yourself instead of purchasing one — it’s much easier than it may seem. Or make one as a thoughtful gift for someone in need.
